Madelaine has been in Leicester for the last week. We've done lots of things. She was spending time with her friend Caroline who lives not that far from me, so i went over to visit them both a few times whilst she stayed there. I've been meaning to take photos of some things locally to me for a LJ community named abandonedplaces and i was thrilled to hear that Madelaine was very much up for coming along. The things i wanted to photograph were of an abandoned farmstead and an old rail tunnel about 2 miles away from the village. Until 1954 there was a railway line that ran from Leicester Belgrave Road station (now defunct) through Humberstone, past Thurnby, Ingarsby (for where i live) and then split towards Melton Mowbray or on to Peterborough station. The railway was dismantled, as were many rail lines at that time. The curious part was that they had a rather long rail tunnel, at least 1200 yards in length if not longer. They demolished one side of it which came out in the middle of what is now a large field that is used to grow crops. The other end was left intact. Measuring it from the last sign of the tunnel (above ground) which is an air vent, to the entrance, it is approximately half a mile in length. This is why it is known locally as The half mile tunnel. Anyway, we went, we took pictures. I have already made a post to the community, but i'd like to share some photos with you as it was quite a nice little adventure. I was abruptly awoken this morning by the door. Was the postie delivering some sort of plant/seed thing for my Mum. I jumped out of bed, quickly got dressed, accepted the parcel and stood and thought to myself. Am i awake yet? The answer was a no. I went back to bed and snoozed for another 3 hours with Oscar snuggled up between my quilt and the radiator. I have a lot of work to do this week still. I can’t say I've done anywhere near as much as I'd like thus far. I’ve been intending to go to the library at college to get some work done as i actually require some books, and i don’t seem to be able to get the relevant information from the Internet. Currently it is half term. The college should be open, but whether or not the library is on reduced opening hours i do not know. A thorough look on the website including the student portal gives no more information though. If it is open full hours, I could get substantial work done as it should be deserted. Keeping on the “need to get some work done ftl” theme, as i lay in bed i looked at my pathetic little workstation desk which houses my pc. I have a full size desk from when i moved out downstairs. I prefer this as it is just a clear wide workspace. Somewhere where you can actually open a book and use the keyboard at the same time. I thought, maybe now that i’ve moved my bed around, i could just about squeeze in my desk. Grabbing a tape measure, it was confirmed. I’d be able to squeeze in the desk with about 1cm clearance. I actually started writing part of this post last year, but after i had gotten up to April, i had written about 2000 words, and it was really, really tediously boring to read.
It was almost a case of *Wall of Text crits Gareth for 205032*. *Gareth dies.*
Well, they say a picture paints a thousand words, so this 'post' will be remembered as an epic essay, as there are quite a few pictures contained within.
I take a fair few pictures, somewhat sporadically though. However, there is always a few pictures for each month, as you can see below.

I hate walking for my bus in the evening. I always get stuck behind a bunch of idiots, such as 5 people walking side by side on a narrow pavement, holding everyone up behind them. Or some old dear deciding to cut across me (actually it doesn't have to be an old dear, all sorts of spatially unaware people do it).
It usually leaves me swearing or venting under my breath, as i have a strange irrational hatred of having to suddenly stop, wait, and potentially miss my bus or that really fucking awful situation where you come across someone coming the opposite direction, and you move one way to avoid, and they move the same way, and then you do it again and again. Awkward.
However today was different. Some woman was about to cut across me but she paused, and she said sorry. I just smiled, probably because my earphones meant i had no idea how loud i would respond when speaking. No rage, no vent and no evil glare from a passing 4 year old (this has happened before).
Strange. ( Pointlessly massive pic under the cut ) Tags: !, inanimate objects, pictures, update Current Location: Leicester, UK, Home Current Mood: calm
