I have no idea why this is so hard to find. You go on the Last.FM website and it's all Iphone programs or non mobile devices. So, If you have a Symbian S60 Phone, use a program called Mobbler. Available to download here: http://code.google.com/p/mobbler/It allows you to listen to last.fm radio streams, and scrobbles music also. It works on N95 and E71 handsets. I would expect it to work on others too. Join the Mobbler User's group on last.fm here: http://www.last.fm/group/Mobbler+UsersTags: internet, last.fm, mobile, music, s60, symbian, technology Current Location: Leicester, UK, Home Current Mood: pleased

So the variation of music taste for me in the last month is below. There are a few anomalous results, like house and House being 2 separate catagories. June-July's figures in brackets, July-August's figures to the left. Userdata for 31.07.2008, (comparative data from 30.06.2008)
OMI: 100 (95) Tracks*: 1266 (1039) Fav. tag: 13 (13) 1. trance - 23.90% (25.87%) 2. electronic - 21.15% (19.62%) 3. dance - 11.74% (11.78%) 4. vocal trance - 5.03% (5.52%) 5. house - 4.23% (0%) 6. progressive trance - 2.76% (2.77%) 7. Nu Metal - 0.14% (0%) 45. club - 0.13% (0.16%) Problem with figures like these is that id3 tags for MP3s (and indeed FLAC's) can have the wrong genre of music on them, furthermore genres of music can often be disputed amongst music fans also. Another slight point to mention is that a lot of the time i listen to Internet radio to satisfy my current musical taste as i really cant be arsed to il legally obtain enough of the type of music i'm liking. Internet radio stations can fill this void with good variety and let me discover more artists/djs/musicians than i would have otherwise. I've listened to less trance, and it seems i replaced it with 'funk' but as i'm not actually listening to funk as such, it's more funky house than Funkadelic, Stevie Wonder style funk. Surprising entries on there are Soul, J-Pop(nearly 1% overall) and indie rock. I dont remember listening to any of that, but it may have just been dodgy id3 tags! If you have a Last.fm account you can get a breakdown of your musical taste via www.Musickum.comI promise the next post will be more about what i have been doing rather than self analysis, as i'm sure it's boring/nonsensical to the majority of you. But does calling my parents up in Italy just to tell them that their favourite facebook application is being shut down make me so? Jury is still out on that one. In slightly related news, i booked my flights to Pisa for October 18th-25th. Looking forward to it. In unrelated news, ETN.fm is playing scarily good tunes. If i was from 1500's, i'd accuse them of witchcraft. Lets start off with, it's been a British heatwave the last 3 days. It reached a grand spanking 26'c today!! (that's 78'F for you yanks). I had a busy weekend of work with everyone wanting to buy as much beer, cider, white wine, and spirits as they could. Anyway, i'm home now and i made myself a drink. I remembered i had a bottle of Absolut Kurrant Vodka in the freezer. So i got some of that out, poured a shot into a tumbler, added some orange squash/whatever it was, then diluted and filled to the top with lemonade. Results are good, though i need more ice! Also at work we got another new flavour of Absolut Vodka, Peach flavour, which for some reason is called Absolut Apeach. Crazy Swedes. I hope to try that out soon. So i got my phone. It's pretty fun stuff really. I was pissed on Friday as i was waiting and waiting and waiting for my phone to arrive via courier, and no courier arrived. At 5pm i checked the parcel tracking website and it said it had been delivered. I was about to go to the post office to find out if the had it, i open the front door, and it's been sat outside the door all day. Gee, thanks postman for not knocking/ringing the bell and leaving a £300 outside for 10 hours. I appreciate it! Anyway by that time there wasnt going to be enough time to go into town and buy a simcard, so i left it til' Saturday. On Saturday i go into the Three shop and kindly ask for a sim where i can pay monthly. Apparently they only do those for phones they sell you on contract. Defeats the fucking point of being on pay monthly. Pay monthly on various other networks was basically a very short term contract where you didn't have to top up just set up a direct debit, and just gave 30 days notice if you were cancelling, which is what i wanted. So bugger that idea. The person i spoke to didn't seem that clued up and tried to say, get a contract phone, sell the phone, keep the sim, but i dont want to deal with a 12-18 month contract, or selling a phone. The guy was also like, oh you should of waited another week and we'd have that phone on contract too! I DON'T WANT A FRICKING CONTRACT MMKAY? He didn't even realise Three are one of two service providers who have managed to get the long awaited Blackberry Bold on contract in 2 weeks. He was like, "oh we don't do blackberries". YOU WILL DO! bleh. I came home and put the simcard from my Three HSDPA modem into my phone, and that worked a treat. I can browse the web on my phone and use the 7gb allowance which i seldom use except when i'm travelling. I can buy add-ons of texts at pretty decent rates too. I cant seem to find any add-ons for voice minutes though, but i cant say i speak on my phone much anyway. The T-Mobile sim from my old phone also works in my new phone, but it doesn't have as good 3g coverage, or as good data rates. But this is the annoying part. Because i live in what feels like a communication black spot, i get shitty/no signal at all from Three in most of the house, except 1 or 2 rooms. Certainly not my bedroom. I do with T-Mobile. A lot of the time i get various calls from people direct to my mobile even if i'm at home. I dont like using the land line. If i was to get good signal throughout, and have internet/hsdpa, i'd have to go with Orange or Vodafone. The two companies are pretty expensive, block/restrict apps on their data plans and i really cant be arsed to deal with.
What to do! Here's some pics of the phone. Sorry about the dust =\

There was a thunderstorm so i powered down my pc/unplugged it and switched to my laptop. I don't mind the router getting blown up, but i do care about my computer, Mostly from a cost and recoverability point of view. There's a lot of things on that computer that i would struggle to replace. I should really buy a back-up hard drive or something, which i have been trying to pressure the rents to do for some time now after them losing various documents from computer failures.
In other news, I've hailed the retrofit of my parents pc a success. They are able to use Ubuntu Linux surprisingly well. I still haven't been able to remedy the only curious thing it does, but it doesn't befuddle them that much, as it's more there fault for buying a cheapo monitor in the first place.
To be more precise, they have a very cheap tft screen, which has only a vga input, and a maximum res of 1024x768 or something like that. Ubuntu boots up and tries to display at 1280x1024, and obviously the monitor says OUT OF RANGE etc. I hooked up my second screen and changed the resolution down to 1024x768, and it worked a treat. However every time it boots up it is still at 1280x1024 for the log in screen. Once they log in (blindly typing) it reverts back to the acceptable resolution of 1024x768.
I've only had experience with versions 4, 6 and 7 of ubuntu, and for some reason i cannot find the hardware settings which i used in the past, and i really cba to piss about in a terminal and xorg or w/e i did last time for my own pc when it had issues with its graphics (different issue, but i know i could fix it from there).
As I'm on the topic of computers, i am really quite surprised at the moment. My pc is 2 years old, and i don't have the urge to upgrade/replace. I truly don't see myself gaining much more from replacing the system, and the current pc is probably not that far off from being maxed out on the upgrade front. I could stick in an extra gig of ram and see if that helps, but any more and I'd have to upgrade to 64bit to see any benefit, and as this would probably require going to vista it would cancel out any gain achieved. The graphics card is noisy, and sometimes struggles with what i throw at it, but it still is above 40fps, and this is with a 1920x1200 main display AND it running a smaller 1280x1024 display as well, so no wonder it struggles a bit! but I'm still able to play a game and watch a dvd at the same time, like the tech junkie i am.
I got a letter from my college today. It read that i have a literacy assessment tomorrow that i must attend. It is at 09:30 and i must be there 15 minutes before. This is annoying. The letter is dated the 2nd of July, but i only received it today, giving me less than 24 hours notice. I've had to reschedule some overtime to do this, but both me and my manager understand that education comes ahead of work at the moment.
On the education front, I've taken my meds and I'm focussed as ever. I got interrupted by a thunderstorm though and assisting my Dad on the internets. Other than that I'm about to get stuck into some more maths, or if i fancy a change work through the physics book i have, though i need some lined paper. The way i seem to be working is that i read through the chapter then re-write it in a smaller condensed form, preferably without the book, so that i know i understand and remember all the points. I then do the questions, and do some questions i set myself which i set and work out with notes. Hopefully i can read through all these and see how i worked everything out in my head.
In a perfect world i would have a drawing pad or something so that i could study straight onto the pc, and save cash on buying squared, grid and lined paper. Oh and space too. I would be able to type up a lot of things, but i seem to remember more things by writing by hand. This is annoying as i really struggle writing for long periods of time as, as the doctor's put it, i have fine motor dyspraxia, making handwriting labour some and messy. As much as i appreciate doctors for trying to help, i do feel there seems to be a name for every single personality quirk and trait. It may be a disorder in an idealist point of view, but it is also what makes people who they are. Another drawback as to using the pc to study Maths in particular is that most character sets lack all the symbols i require, and i should be getting familiar with them instead of substituting them with other keys/words.
Swinging back 3 paragraphs. I have a literacy assessment. British colleges and Universities have these because there is an alarming amount of people who have very poor literacy skills in this country. Yes this is the same country that gives the world Shakespeare, and some reports say there are 7 million adults in the UK who are functionally illiterate. So if you don't have a grade C or above in GCSE English, you have to take one of these assessments, and then they give you 'key skills' or 'study skills'. The name varies from establishment to establishment. Unfortunately for me, being the slacker i was in school, i got a D in GCSE English, and a B in GCSE Literature. I'd of preferred it to be the other way around and then i wouldn't have to put up with these tests.
Truth be told, my English writing ability is not shit hot. It's widely agreed that if you don't use it regularly then you become rusty at it. Other than blogging i seldom write anything longer than an IM, something that is far from grammatically correct most of the time. I do try to keep my grammar skills up but do not take this as in invitation to come highlight every grammatical error in my blog as it will result in death by head butting.
Loudtwitter.com is down, which is annoying. I posted a fair few tweet's yesterday and it is a shame that they will probably not see the light of day outside twitter.com, which overloads fairly regularly still. At least Phaedie has started using it again. This makes her one of two people i actively follow on there. It's nice knowing what friends are doing, even if they are thousands of miles away. I wonder how much it costs for you to receive SMS alerts from twitter though. As i'm still on PAYG, i dont get free txts and so i cant send and receive hundreds of texts a day without my wallet depleting in size.
